A Rewarding Pregnancy Journal (ContentDesk) July 2, 2005 -- In her fourth month of pregnancy, Kim responded to a newspaper ad for prenatal yoga classes at Maternal Health & Fitness in Andover, MA. She didn't realize at the time just how much this phone call would change her whole outlook on pregnancy, birth and being a new mom. She knew that exercising would benefit her and her baby as she prepared for the one of the most memorable events of her life, but what she didn't know was that the information that flowed freely throughout the classes would be just as important. Kim says,"Where else can you go and just be pregnant? The camaraderie is great!"As Kim's due date approached, she and her husband Rick decided to enroll in Maternal Health and Fitness' Hypnobirthing Childbirth Education Class. Hypnobirthing focuses on being in control of your mind and body. It also emphasizes the significance of the dad's role at the birth. It is not necessarily about having a drug free birth. Kim says, "I learned to release my fears, to trust my body, and the importance of practicing relaxation." Rick said that the classes made him feel like he was now more a part of the pregnancy. As reported in the North Shore Women's Journal June issue, http://www.NSWJ.com, Kim and Rick chose to have Maternal Health & Fitness' owner, Maureen, a certified Doula, attend the birth. A Doula's primary role is to provide physical and emotional support, comfort measures, and support the choices the couple makes during labor and birth. Maureen says that the best advice she can offer parents-to-be is to remain flexible. She says, "Being in labor is like playing a game of cards and you never know which cards you'll be dealt. Having the tools to change your strategy along the way is invaluable. A healthy mom and a healthy baby is the outcome that we want." Kim and Rick felt their birth experience with their daughter Kirbie was a beautiful one that they wouldn't change in any way.Six weeks after Kirby's birth, Kim returned to Maternal Health & Fitness to attend postpartum fitness classes with her baby in tow. She wanted to develop a fitness routine geared to her needs. In her second with daughter Regan, Kim again participated in prenatal fitness classes and had Maureen attend her birth. Kim says, "After 5 years, Maternal Health & Fitness is still a big part of my life. I have playgroups with good friends I met there and share experiences and memories."Maternal Health and Fitness is the culmination of a life's dream come true for its owner and founder, Maureen Saba. As a Perinatal Technician in the Birthing Center at Caritas Holy Family Hospital for over 6 years, Maureen saw first-hand how women who exercised during their pregnancies were better physically and mentally prepared for the birthing experience.Maureen says, "I wanted to create a haven where women could come to prepare their bodies and minds for the birth of their babies. You will, in nine months, experience the most miraculous event of your life."Maureen has been featured on many national television programs, magazines, and newspapers. She is a member of the the Hypnobirthing Board of Directors, Massachusetts Division Director Prenatal Parenting and YWCA Women in Business.Maureen's Certifications include:-Hypnobirthing,® Childbirth Educator-Doula, DONA Certified-Prenatal Parenting® Massachusetts Div.
